NEW MARKIT FUNCTIONALITY TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE IT PROCUREMENT

 ·

Markit clients can now choose to purchase their IT products even more sustainably than before.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the first version of our Last Mile Distance Calculator to help companies who wish to reduce the environmental impact of their IT hardware and accessories deliveries.

Our specific aim is to help our clients succeed in their sustainable procurement objectives and reduce their Scope 3 emissions in line with the United Nations climate action goals.

"It’s no secret that logistics is one area of business that contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions in the global economy. Moving goods from one side of the world to the other is incredibly resource-intensive, and it becomes even more so, once you get into the fundamental complexities and inefficiencies of last mile delivery. This new functionality, which will be developed further, will help our clients who wish to reduce their environmental impact.”

Olga Paluga, Sustainability Manager at Markit

This unique new functionality, presented at the basket optimisation stage, gives Markit clients an additional option to instantly reconfigure their order, so their IT devices travel the least possible distance, thus reducing CO2 emissions of the shipment concerned due to the lower amount of fuel consumed.

It works by calculating the straight-line distance between the distribution warehouse (pickup location) and the client’s chosen delivery address for each order option.

The Last Mile Distance calculation in the Order Optimiser is one of many Markit features that assist sustainable purchasing of IT hardware and accessories. It is just one outcome from various active sustainability projects at Markit that also help us fulfil our goals as an Active Participant of United Nation Global Compact.
