Spend Control as a Value Driver for Procurement Transformation

This winter’s issue of CPO Strategy Magazine features an exclusive with KPMG's Chief Procurement Officer, Martin Lee, where he explains how their procurement transformation, and spend control especially, bring value for KPMG.

This echoes our attitude at Markit, it’s about delivering value to the various business functions and not a simple question of “best price” for the CPO. When you save time, reduce pain and increase value in other ways for multiple departments this has a real and positive financial impact that suppliers/partners and companies should work harder to quantify if they are to cement procurement's seat at the top decision-making tables. 

Martin recognises the shift from procurement being reactive (supporting stakeholder needs) to being proactive and really understanding what the business aims to achieve and bringing market possibilities, and data to support it, to the table. 

In the interview he cites how spend control was a key enabler of KPMG’s new procurement strategy and how procurement technology has helped increase spend visibility, control and spend influence. He illustrates this with a story about the relationship with IBM and how they have extended their IT sourcing capabilities.
