AlliedWare is Allied Telesis' feature-rich operating system that serves as the foundation for its entire line of Layer 3 switches and routers. It includes the functionality, management capabilities and performance that today's networks demand, and as a standards-based implementation, it also assures full interoperability with other major network equipment.AES is an algorithm that replaces the Data Encryption Standard (DES) as the Federal Information Processing Standard for encrypting data. DES dates from 1977, and AES was introduced in 2001. AES is more secure than DES. Because data is processed faster as more powerful computer hardware is used, DES keys were becoming vulnerable to attack. Triple DES (3DES) uses three rounds of DES on blocks of data, making it more effective than single DES. AES has been introduced as an alternative to 3DES to provide better data encryption security now and in the future. AES is different from DES and 3DES because it supports a longer key length and uses different routines to encrypt and decrypt data. Encryption algorithms with a long key length are more secure than those with a short key length. DES keys are 56 bits long, and with 3DES two or three DES keys are used, making a total key length of 112 or 168 bits. AES keys can be 128, 192, or 256 bits long. These keys generate sub-keys that are combined with blocks of data for encryption. The greater number of keys that AES can generate, and its new encryption and decryption processes, make it highly resistant to attack.
