Compact keyboards reduce the reach to the mouse and thereby also reduce stress on the forearms. Research has shown that about 90% of users never or only sometimes use the numerical part of the keyboard.
The numerical part should ideally be optional and usable either on the left or right. Compact keyboards are experienced as more comfortable than standard keyboards.
